3 out of 5 stars Fun but a bit short.   October 6, 2008

Having played Cooking Mama on the Nintendo DS and throughly enjoying it, I thought Cooking Academy would be just as good so I decided to give it a play. Although it's almost exactly like Cooking Mama, it's a bit short and replayability isn't all that great.

So what's the game about? You play as a new chef at a culinary school. You must chop, dice, slice, and mix your way through breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert. It's a timed game so you must quickly perform each task to receive a good grade. Upon completing each food dish with a decent grade, you move on to new recipes in order to complete the game.

Let's talk about the positives first. If you've played Cooking Mama before, you'll like this game. It's almost exactly the same game only there are added bonuses. For example, when you complete all of the recipes in each category, you have to complete 5 exams in order to begin the next category. Also, you earn different trophies based on how many recipes you complete and how well you do on all of the recipes.

And now for the negatives. Although there quite a few recipes to choose from, this game is a bit short. You can complete it in a couple of hours easily. Also, replayability isn't all that high. Yes, you can try to ace every recipe but there's not much else to do once you've done that.

Overall, this game is fun and smaller kids will love it. However, the few flaws I mentioned make this game just OK. I would not recommend it.
