I had this out of the box, plugged in and was copying my files to it in 5 minutes. I am not using the backup software that is provided, so I cannot comment on that part. I just created a folder named "Backup" on the external drive and then pasted each of my data folders (and everything in them) to it. It took an hour or so to back up 32 gig.
This drive was easy to set up, and is easy to transfer files to. It does everything I wanted and I could not be happier.
