Amazon.com Product Description
With 4 GB of built-in memory, the Samsung S5 represents the second generation of Samsung's portable media players to come with a built-in speaker. With the S5, users will still enjoy the high-quality 1.5-watt speaker (the same speaker that came with the S5's predecessor), which can slide open or closed to offer a choice between a portable device and a desktop speaker system.

The S5 features games, a radio tuner, a built-in portable speaker, and more. View larger. View menu overview.

Packed with tons of great features, the S5 comes with video playback and photo viewing capabilities, an alarm clock that can be used with MP3 files or an FM radio/recording, and built-in games. Last but not least, the S5 has built-in Bluetooth 1.2 connectivity, a feature that allows users to pair with wireless headphones or cell phones. Imagine never missing a call and even turning your S5 into a speaker phone--with the S5, you don't have to imagine, because it's ready.

The built-in FM tuner will scan the entire FM range in less than 60 seconds and automatically place the available FM stations into presets. To eliminate stations with marginal reception, you can adjust the sensitivity to only preset stations with strong reception. The S5 comes with a built-in microphone so you can record live sound, such as an important lecture or your neighbor's garage band, as an MP3 file. MPEG4 video files are the most common open video format available today, and the S5 comes ready to play MPEG 4 files right out of the box. Samsung multimedia software included with the S5 transcodes video files on your PC before transferring to the S5, so files on the S5 play at an optimal frame size and rate with minimal effort from the user.

Samsung multimedia software also can assist in transferring JPEG images onto the S5 for later viewing. Once on the S5, images can be zoomed and re-centered. Any JPEG on the S5 can become the wallpaper during music playback. For added user convenience, the S5 is compatible with music subscription services, such as Rhapsody, Napster, and Yahoo!. The player supports MP3, AAC, and WMA audio files, MPEG 4 video files, and JPEG photo files. Compatible with Windows XP and Windows Vista operating systems, the S5 measures 3.78 x 1.83 x 0.58 inches and weighs just three ounces.

The S5's Bluetooth capability allows it to communicate wirelessly with other devices.

Product Description

The YP-S5 also is equipped with Bluetooth-enabled wireless stereo providing the kind of listening one could only dream of.

this mp3 player has everything that you will basically use. over 4gigs of memory and you can listen to your music, view your pictures clearly, and watch your videos in almost-great quality. sooo many things to do with this mp3 player.

only problem that i have is that it's a little slow when you use the touch buttons.

2 out of 5 stars Wouldn't load Library Audiobooks   June 5, 2008

I bought the YP-S5J AB specifically to play audiobooks that can be downloaded from the local library. This model was on a list the library made of devices that worked with their files, so it does work for this purpose sometimes...just not for me. I spent about three hours trying it various ways, downloading firmware, and double-checking with the library to see if I missed anything (The books played on my computer fine, so it wasn't a problem with downloading from the library). I would get the error message "It is not possible to transfer this file. Contact device maker for firmware update." I then spent half an hour on the Samsung Technical Support Line. The only thing they could tell me was to go to website and download any firmware updates, which I had already done (twice) so I am returning it. I also didn't like the design of the device with regard to its actual usage (turning on, selecting music, etc.) Using the push screen felt akward and I had to press the "buttons" multiple times before it would take, although maybe this would improve as you used it longer.

3 out of 5 stars it's alright   May 17, 2008

i purchased this product mainly b/c i like to listen to sermons, and i wanted to find a way i could speed up the tempo. i'm not completely satisfied since i did so much homework looking into this product. the fact that it has a speaker is definitely a plus. however, the buttons are too sensitive (touchpad) so that it's difficult to navigate. also, the fact that it resets your volume settings to default everytime you turn off the device is very annoying. oh, and in case anyone is wondering, if you increase or decrease the tempo speed (up to x3), the pitch WILL change - this is a bummer, but I guess there's no way around it. the video also sucks b/c the screen is TOO small. it is a nifty recorder, however, if you need to record class lectures. I think the IPOD is more user friendly, and i would recommend apple instead.

first off, great price for this Mp3 player.
The S5 is the coolest Mp3 player out there. I am in love with it!
I also love the software the comes along with this player, really easy to upload dah music.
The speakers are so clear sounded and can reach a really high volume.
The touch screen is awesome, but very sensitive. So I would buy some protective shields for it when purchasing (You can get those at Walmart, cheap price).
The player over all is worth 10 stars in my point of view. Everyone is so jealous of it! I would drop an Ipod anytime for dis piece of fine work!
But there's more to this player!
Sooo so customizable. You can change pretty much everything to fit your s-s-style...
honestly you have to get the S5 because the T5 maybe the same thing, but the S5 has that cool, retro speaker design that is like friggin sweet man.

4 out of 5 stars First mp3 player, pretty good   May 2, 2008

I ordered the Samsung S5 a few months ago and so far it has proven to be a pretty well made player.
I was a bit wary at first because this was my first mp3 player and wanted something other than an iPod. Not because I'm anti Apple, but because people should realize that a lot have more features than the iPod.
Anyway, What I like about it is the size, sound quality, and the capacity. It struck me as odd however that the 8gig version will never be available in the North American market unless you get it imported. The Bluetooth has also come in handy many times for when I'm working and will not be able to hear the phone otherwise. However a text alert would be helpful too (instead of just calls). The sound quality is amazing. The sound is loud and with different equalizer settings (including a customizable one) the sound has proven itself for my 4 sets of headphones (2 over head models and 2 ear bud models).

Now the nitty gritty:

Pros-
Good sound
Small size
Speakers very useful for sharing with friends
Dropped a few times, and is still functioning and not too many scratches
Radio is handy to have
Voice and radio recording
Text reading capabilities

Cons-
Software slows down my computer (but files can be dragged and dropped by Windows explorer)
Some mp3s are difficult or unable to transfer to the player
Battery life is short if you're not the playlist type
After long play time with the hold button on, the buttons become 'stuck' and I have to reboot.
