5 out of 5 stars 5 star manual for iMacs   August 27, 2008
Mary L. Stringham (Escondido, CA United States)
This volume is excellent. It's easy to read and understand. Helps to make up for the fact that Apple doesn't put any manual of value in the computer box these days.

I found this manual, like many I've used previous to this, to be very poorly organized. My first clue was that there is no glossary, like it is assumed that someone who needs a tech manual is fully fluent in the semantics of the subject. If that were the case, I wouldn't need a tech manual. The comic book format is, I suppose, great for a young student, but is a distraction to some one like myself who is just looking for easily understood verbal answers. Here's one, "The most important folders in the Mac OS are at the top of the hierarchical organization. Wow, that tells me sooo much about folders I'm still amazed. If I really understood more about folders and how or why to use them, it might be very useful. Perhaps when I know and understand more about my Mac, and I am able to customize and color code my e-mails and files, this manual may be very useful.

Absolutamente recomendable. No necesitaras otra guia para dominar Leopard.

I wasn't aware of these books and found them to be a great read -- fast, useful, and a great reference. My first book in the visually style was Mac OS X Leopard. When you drop $2,000 on a computer I think it's worth it to spend a few bucks in books to help you get the most of the operating system. I liked this one so much I bought the Visually Photoshop CS3 book for a quick primer, overview, and reference guide too. Of course, these are not the "Bible" version of a way to learn a program -- those going into mind boggling detail and 20+ hour time commitment. Instead, they go into a right amount of detail for those wanting a broad based idea of the program, peaking your interest enough to then launch into buying the "Bible." Thumbs up on the Visually book series.

I am relatively new to the Mac world especially Leopard, and I found this book Teach Yourself VISUALLY Mac OS X Leopard (Teach Yourself VISUALLY (Tech))a worthwhile companion. Basic yes! but to a silver surfer very useful indeed. Easy to read and a good desk side reference.
