Back to PCs for Me! January 3, 2010 Meg's Mom (Washington, USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Apple has some serious explaining to do: I've had 3 PC laptops and never had a battery fail so rapidly--- and to physically expand!
Read the blogs on Apple's own website, and you'll see this problem is rampant. Some users' batteries expand into the case and destroy the track-pad. But call Apple, and they'll tell you, "All batteries expand when their fuel cells are empty," and "Batteries are consumables so if you didn't buy our extended warranty, you have to buy a new battery." [NEVER MIND THAT ON THEIR OWN WEBSITE MORE THAN 370 USERS HAVE HAD THESE CRITICAL BATTERY FAILURES]. I have an HP from 2002 and the original battery is still running. Same for my 2004 Compaq, and even the original battery in our kid's knock-around Dell (circa 1999) is still running.
Sorry to say, but Apple really stinks on this front. Their customer service is seriously dropping the ball and is not at all competitive with HP.
BOTTOM LINE: Don't be surprised if your replacement batteries fail quickly (even Apple's "Senior Advisor" says they don't last longer than 300 charges or 9-15 months); and if your machine isn't under warranty be sure to replace the battery every 12 months so it won't expand and destroy your computer.
What's there to say? September 26, 2009 drady (san carlos, CA USA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
It works.
Holds a full charge.
Would've been 5 stars except for ...
Bought this as a replacement for the battery that came with my MacBook Pro.
After just 18-months, that battery puffed up, broke itself apart and almost damaged the MacBook Pro as well.
Question is: How long will this replacement battery live?
17 in Mac Pro Battery September 14, 2009 Jane W. Akmentins (Daytona, FL) 0 out of 5 found this review helpful
My 17 in Macbook Pro laptop for $3000. has just had a second heated up battery, so for $129 I can keep running, this is an expensive toy for an old lady . I sat the old battery on a table in open box and it has opened up, what do I do
with it, cannot go in garbage. Does Apple collect these for safe disposal? I see Apple has now built in batteries how do
you replace them? Maybe Apple should get some USA batteries not Chinese.Maybe Apple needs to check these batteries
so to get rid of the problem. I love my laptop, it is my main machine but I had to buy a new cord, now new battery what next.?? I am 79 and pay bills, do email, do video family conferences and play games to keep brain alert but have to watch
my pocketbook so buy from Amazon they are the best on prices and service. please respond. Thank uou
the battery opens when I'm working April 13, 2009 Josue Daniel Ochoa (Guatemala, Guatemala) 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
I just changed to mac, I allways used toshiba, dell, acer, but never before happends that a battery without any reasson opens, inflated and failed, I'm not charging the battery because the macbook was cord connected, and the battery was 100% charged.
The computer only has a little more than 1 year old, and the battery stills works between 1.30 to 2 hours without charging..... but when I call to Apple, they said that the warranty was expired.. so.. I have to buy another battery and expend because a bad manufacturing.
:(
EXREMELY DANGEROUS!!! February 10, 2009 Person- not expecting battery fluid 4 out of 11 found this review helpful
17 inch MacBook Pro. Battery dies, battery case warps. I take it out, holding it, trying to see where the "cover" must be to remove it from the battery and put it back on the computer. I call Apple. The woman who answers hears it is cracked and warns me NOT TO TOUCH IT. Have I been contaminated?? I CAN'T SAY. What??? IS IT LEAKING? Well, no, so is it safe? I CAN'T SAY. YOU SHOULD WASH YOUR HANDS IMMEDIATELY. Is the acid invisible? Are there dangerous fumes? Do I need to go to the emergency room?
Please. Is this acceptable? A battery that cracks open? Potentially leaking blinding acid? With my 3-year old standing nearby. I am on the phone, I set the battery down, trying to shoo my child away with my possibly acid-drenched hands in the air. As I am trying to find out if this "fluid" is visible or not. I am told it is a thick clear fluid, and I should be able to see it- but maybe not. How can I tell? I will feel a burning feeling. Immediately? Yes. Oh. Well.
This is Apple design? How many Apple users homes have children? Or people not expecting cracked batteries with DANGEROUS FLUID that can squirt out of a cracked battery case.
